What to Bring, Wear and Expect at Your Wedding Dance Lessons, Let's Dance Brisbane and Gold Coast
What to Bring, Wear, and Expect at Your First Private Wedding Dance LessonA gentle prep guide for brides, grooms, and couples who just want to feel ready.
So you've taken the leap and booked your wedding dance lessons. That's honestly one of the loveliest things you can do for your wedding day, and we're so glad you're here. But if you're feeling a little nervous about walking into that first lesson, you are absolutely not alone.
Whether you're coming to us from Brisbane City, New Farm, Toowong, or travelling in from the Gold Coast suburbs of Helensvale or Southport, here's everything you need to know to feel calm, confident, and completely prepared before you arrive.
What to Wear
Comfort is everything. You don't need to arrive in a ball gown or dance shoes on your very first lesson. Here's what we suggest:
Wear something you can move freely in, think fitted activewear, stretch jeans, or light trousers. Avoid anything too stiff, too long, or too voluminous for now. You want to be able to feel your body move!
For shoes, bring a pair with a smooth or leather-style sole if you have them. Rubber-soled sneakers can grip the floor and make turns tricky. Ladies, a low heel is perfectly fine and actually great practice for dancing in your wedding shoes later on. Gents, a flat dress shoe works beautifully.
If you plan to practise at home in between lessons (and we love it when couples do!), a smooth indoor floor and socks will do the trick.
What to Bring
Just a few simple things:
A bottle of water, because you will be warmer than you expect! A light snack if you've come straight from work. Your phone if you'd like to record any steps to practise at home between sessions, and most importantly, an open mind and a willingness to laugh at yourself. That second part is non-negotiable.
What to Expect
Your first private wedding dance lesson is not an audition. It is not a performance. It is a relaxed, fun, and completely judgement-free conversation between you, your partner, and your wedding dance instructor.
We'll chat about the kind of couple you are on the dance floor, whether you've danced before, what your wedding song is, and what kind of first dance you're dreaming of. Whether you're hoping for a slow, romantic Rumba, something cheeky like a Cha Cha, or even a surprise Salsa that gets your guests off their seats, we'll build something that feels like you.
From there, your wedding dance teacher will tailor a plan designed around your timeline, your goals, and your comfort level. Our wedding dance packages are fully customised, so there's no cookie-cutter routine handed to you on day one.
Let's Dance is proud to have received a 99.8% Customer Rating in the 2025 Australian Bridal Industry Awards (Wedding Dance Division), and was also a national finalist in the 2025 Bx Business xCellence Awards (Wedding Division). These aren't just lovely accolades, they reflect the care and dedication we pour into every couple who walks through our doors.
A Word for the Nervous Ones
If you are the partner who said "yes" to this and is quietly terrified, this section is for you.
You are not expected to be good at this. That is literally why you're here. So many couples who come to us from across Brisbane, including Chermside, Kedron, Sunnybank, Mount Gravatt, and Eight Mile Plains, tell us they were "not dancers" before their first lesson. By the end of their private dance lessons for their wedding, they are gliding across the floor with genuine confidence and genuine joy.
Our private wedding dance lessons are designed to meet you exactly where you are. Nervous, uncoordinated, two left feet and all.
A Quick Note on Timing
We recommend starting your wedding dance lessons at least eight to twelve weeks before your big day. This gives you enough time to learn your choreography, practise it, and feel truly comfortable with it by the time you're standing on that dance floor together.
Couples from across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, from Loganholme and Rochedale through to Labrador and Coomera, have all found that a little consistency goes a long way.
You've got this. And we've got you.
