How Many Lessons Do You Actually Need to Feel Ready for Your First Dance?
One of the most common questions we hear at Let's Dance is, "How many lessons will we need?" It's a completely fair thing to wonder, especially when you're juggling venue bookings, caterers, florists, and everything else that comes with planning a wedding in Brisbane or on the Gold Coast.
The honest answer is: it depends on you as a couple. But let us break that down in a way that's actually helpful.
The Average Couple
Most couples who come to us for private wedding dance lessons end up taking somewhere between four and eight sessions. That range covers everything from a gorgeous, flowing Rumba performed with quiet elegance, to a fully choreographed routine with lifts, turns, and a few crowd-pleasing moments. Where you land in that range comes down to your starting point, your song choice, and how much you want to include in your first dance choreography.
If You're Complete Beginners
If neither of you has ever danced before, welcome, you're in good company! The majority of our couples arrive with zero dance experience. In that case, we'd gently suggest giving yourselves a little more time. Four to six lessons, spaced out over a few months, gives you time to learn the steps, practise at home with your take-home summary video, and let everything settle into your body naturally.
We work with couples from all across Brisbane, including suburbs like Windsor, Kedron, Chermside, and Mount Gravatt, and the Gold Coast, from Labrador to Southport and everywhere in between. No matter your starting point, we'll find the right pace for you.
If One of You Has Danced Before
Sometimes one partner has a little more experience than the other, perhaps some social dance classes years ago, or a background in another style. In that case, things can move a little faster, and you might feel confident and ready in three to five lessons.
If You Want Something More Elaborate
If your vision includes a more theatrical first dance, maybe an upbeat Salsa, a playful Cha Cha, or a choreographed routine with a dramatic flair, then allowing yourself six to eight lessons gives your wedding dance instructor enough time to teach the steps, refine the performance, and make sure you both feel genuinely wonderful on the day.
The Pay-As-You-Go Difference
One of the things our couples love most about Let's Dance is that there's no set package to buy or minimum number of lessons to commit to. You book one session, we assess where you're at together, and then we give you our honest recommendation. You're always in control of how many sessions you take, and we'll never push you to book more than you need.
Quality Over Quantity
We'd rather you have five outstanding lessons than eight rushed ones. Our private wedding dance lessons are designed to be efficient, progressive, and genuinely enjoyable. By the time your wedding day arrives, we want you stepping onto that dance floor feeling like yourselves, just a slightly more confident, beautifully coordinated version.
The number of lessons is honestly less important than starting at the right time and trusting the process. Let's find the right plan for you.
